3D Sound

Nature doesn’t have a Left and Right audio channel.

The sounds of nature are meant to be heard from all around you, embracing you, as nature does—not through a Left and Right audio channel. But until now, this was all we could hope for, what we had to settle for.

Now you can hear nature sounds (and all other sounds) as they were meant to be heard—not just in “surround sound” (which doesn’t really surround you at all) but in fully immersive 3D sound.

With an extraordinary breakthrough in recording technology called "binaural recording" or "binaural audio", sounds are experienced as coming from all around the listener – near and far, above and below, on all sides, and sometimes in motion – just like in real life. It creates a more realistic listening experience than anything a traditional sound recording is capable of, no matter how professionally it was recorded or how great the quality of the playback system (headphones or speakers). That's why I prefer to call it "3D Living Sound".

I'm Dr. Tom Jackson. For over 30 years I’ve enjoyed a successful career as psychiatrist, during which time I developed a high level of expertise utilizing traditional techniques to help my patients lead healthier and happier lives. Yet throughout it all, traditional medicine felt a bit confining to me and I was constantly exploring alternative techniques in my efforts to provide the best possible care.

Early on I recognized that traditional therapies were not taking full advantage of the “power of the mind” to relieve certain symptoms, and so I soon found myself developing alternative therapeutic approaches to do just that—utilize the power of the mind for therapeutic aims. Drawing on a passion I’ve long had for audio recording and engineering, my pursuits led me to begin utilizing sound in new and unique ways. What was once a hobby transformed into a professional pursuit that has evolved over three decades.

About the Author

Dr. Tom Jackson, MD is a psychiatrist who has specialized in the treatment of sleep disorders and anxiety for the past thirty years. His unique therapeutic audio programs originate in his background as a recording engineer, therapist, musician, poet and environmental biologist. Study of AudioMagic Relaxation I Program on In-patients at the Glendale Adventist Hospital: by Thomas Jackson, MD and Chris Alsten, Ph.D., Oct 20, 2010; In-patients on a number of different units at the Glendale Adventist Hospital in Glendale, California were provided with the AudioMagic Relaxation I Programs along with players and headphones with which to listen. The AudioMagic Relaxation I Program demonstrated effectiveness in a number of settings

Comparison of mono, stereo and 3-Dimensional Living Sound using topographic EEG brain mapping: by Gary Schwartz, Ph.D., Oct 20, 2010; In this study, 15 subjects listened to recordings of ocean and various sound effects recorded in mono, stereo and 3D Living Sound. While listening, electroencephalographic recordings of brain wave activity were conducted and subjects rated each audio recording for interest and realism.

Study of AudioMagic Natural Sleep conducted at the UCI Medical Center’s Sleep Disorders Clinic: by Jon Sassin, MD, Oct 20, 2010; The following study was conducted at the UCI Medical Center’s Sleep Disorders Clinic in 1983. AudioMagic Natural Sleep as part of the Sleep Enhancement Fatigue Reduction Training (SEFRT): by Christopher Alsten, Ph.D., Sep 12, 2010; The Air Force contracted with my company, Inner Health, Inc., to evaluate the effectiveness of our programs for improving sleep and reducing the fatigue experienced by jet-lagged Air Force pilots and air crews, along with the effect on shiftworker fatigue. The result was the Sleep Enhancement Fatigue Reduction Training (SEFRT) program, which incorporated the most recent versions of the 3D AudioMagic™ Natural Sleep programs, and included a separate instruction booklet further detailing sleep enhancement and fatigue reduction techniques.
V. Study of AudioMagic Sleep Programs on a locked psychiatric unit: by Thomas Jackson, MD, Oct 20, 2010; Hospitalized psychiatric patients frequently experience significant sleep problems associated with both their illness and the stress of sleeping in an unfamiliar environment and are often prescribed sleeping pills on an as-needed (PRN) basis. A study to evaluate the effectiveness of the AudioMagic Natural Sleep program to replace the use of sleeping pills was initiated at the Therapeutic Residential Center, in Downey California—a 39 bed, locked, psychiatric facility. Primary diagnoses were schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression.

Bystritsky, MD, Sep 12, 2010; In a 1999 double-blind study conducted at UCLA, Dr. Bystritsky demonstrated that the 3D Living Sound technology, listened to over ordinary stereo headphones, enhanced several psycho-physiological responses compared to ordinary stereo in anxious patients.

Study of AudioMagic Relaxation I & II in a Chemical Dependency Unit: by Peggy Lachine, R.N., Sep 12, 2010; In a 1993 single-blind pilot study, chemical dependency patients were assigned to use either the 3D AudioMagic™ Relaxation programs or traditional progressive muscle relaxation and imagery audiocassette programs. Those using the AudioMagic™ program showed a statistically significant cumulative decrease in anxiety within one week.
